Levadia Tallinn 0 Drogheda United 1 (agg 1-3): Graham Gartland made amends for recent slip-ups to guide Drogheda United into second round of the Champions League qualifiers where they will meet Ukrainian giants Dynamo Kiev.
The defender's back pass was at fault for Levadia's Tallinn's potentially costly away goal at Dalymount Park last week and he also conceded a penalty to Cork City in the recent 1-0 league defeat to the Leesiders.
Today, however, he was the hero when he found the net from Paul Keegan's corner in the 47th minute to secure a 1-0 win and a 3-1 aggregate scoreline over the Estonian side in the Kadrioru Stadium.
Ollie Cahill had come close to giving the away side the lead shortly before half-time but his close-range shot was blocked.
Gartland also fulfilled his defensive duties well as the League of Ireland side put up some stubborn resistance against the Estonians to ensure they went into the break with the scores level.
Drogheda were given a further boost 20 minutes after they went ahead when Vadim Petrenko was sent off for the side currently top of the Estonian league, and the visitors dominated the closing stages.
Drogheda face Dynamo over two legs when the second round gets underway next week.
