Michael Bannon, coach to Rory McIlroy, has been named as the the Philips Sports Manager of the Month for July.
Bannon has been Rory’s swing coach for the past 17 years and has given up his coaching position in Bangor GC to be available to Rory on a full-time basis.
On July 20th Rory won the British Open by two strokes having led the field throughout. He is the first European golfer to win three of the four majors.
Bannon has been McIlroy’s coach since he was eight years old, firstly in Hollywood Golf Club and latterly when Bannon moved to his position in Bangor Golf Club.
He is one of the top teaching professionals in Ireland and has taught many young people including Ulster and Irish boys and youth champions with five of his ex juniors joining the professional ranks. He has also worked as a coach with the GUI Ulster branch in youth development.
