Sven-Goran Eriksson is determined to have a new goalkeeper at Manchester City ahead of Wednesday's Barclays Premier League clash with newly-promoted Derby at Eastlands.

With Sweden international Andreas Isaksson sidelined with a broken finger, Eriksson was forced to hand Kasper Schmeichel his senior debut at West Ham on Saturday.

The 20-year-old, son of Denmark and Manchester United legend Peter, was not put under extreme pressure by the Hammers during City's 2-0 win but coped creditably with the work he did have to do.

Yet Eriksson does not feel it is fair to ask the youngster, or his other keeper, England under-21 international Joe Hart, to shoulder the burden of regular top level combat at such a young age.

And he is keen to bring in a more experienced keeper as City look to build on their triumphant start to the season.

"It is right that we bring in a new goalkeeper and a new one will arrive shortly," said the Swede.

"We have two very good young goalkeepers but I don't think you should place so much responsibility on them at this time in their careers. Goalkeepers need experience."

Having missed out on Scott Carson, who joined Aston Villa on loan from Liverpool last week, Eriksson will probably turn his attentions to Livorno's Marco Amelia, current deputy to Gianluigi Buffon in the Italian national side.

Bolton striker Kevin Davies could be sidelined for up to six weeks after tearing a hamstring. He suffered the setback on Saturday during the 3-1 defeat by Newcastle and was replaced by Heidar Helguson in the second half.

Davies will now sit out the match against Fulham at Craven Cottage.  Fellow striker Ricardo Vaz Te is also in danger of missing that game as he will have a scan later today on a foot injury.
