Champions League Draw:Alex Ferguson will lock horns with Jose Mourinho once more after the defending champions Manchester United were drawn against Inter Milan in the second round of the Champions League. Chelsea and Arsenal will also face Italian opposition when they host Juventus and AS Roma respectively, while Rafael Benitez will revisit familiar territory when he brings Liverpool to his former club Real Madrid.
Ferguson and Mourinho last met in the competition when the latter guided his FC Porto side to victory at Old Trafford on the way to winning the tournament in 2004.
The two met far more frequently when pitted against each other in the Premier League during Mourinho's successful spell at Chelsea, when he broke Ferguson's stranglehold on the title and helped transform the Londoners into one of the top sides in Europe.
United's communications director Phil Townsend said the draw was a good one for the Old Trafford club and offered the chance to gain revenge on Mourinho, five years on from their loss against his Porto side.
"It's a very exciting draw. We've only met Inter once before in the Champions League and we got through then, and maybe it's a good omen because it was in 1999 and we ended up winning the tournament," he said. "We'll be trying to put one over on Jose this time and get the result the fans want and the club wants."
Inter director Ernesto Paolillo revealed he hoped Mourinho's previous encounters against Ferguson's side will give the Italian outfit the edge across the two legs.
"Mourinho told me that he wanted Manchester United, and I think he's right," Paolillo told Sky Sports News. "Against Manchester United we can find the right motivation and the right concentration to play a very good game.
"Mourinho is experienced in English football, and he knows United very well.
As group winner United will travel to Italy first before hosting the return leg at Old Trafford.
Liverpool are in the same position and face a trip to famous Bernabeau to take on Juande Ramos's Real. The former Tottenham manager was the surprise choice to replace Bernd Schuster, after the German was sacked by Real last week, and his new job will take him back to England almost immediately.
It will be Liverpool's second visit to the Spanish capital this season after playing Atletico Madrid in the group stages.
Benitez was both a player and a coach at Madrid and also enjoyed some success against them when masterminding Valencia's two La Liga title wins in 2002 and 2004.
Arsenal's opponents Roma topped Chelsea's group in the qualification process and have made progress in the last year after some appalling recent form in the tournament. Their league form, however, is extremely poor and sees them languishing in 10th in Serie A.
Danny Fiszman, Arsenal's major shareholder and a director at the club, feels the Gunners have got a kind draw and hopes, with the final also being in Rome, the club can look forward to two visits to the Italian capital.
Fiszman told Sky Sports News: "I think it is a good draw for us. We have stayed away from the favourite of the moment and we have also stayed away from Panathinaikos, which meant a long trip.
"We have a good record against Roma, we are pleased with the draw.
"I think it is the old cliche, there isn't an easy game, but it is an exciting draw, exciting for the fans.
"Our fans will have the chance to go to Rome and hopefully we will do it twice."
Last year's runners-up Chelsea will be pleased too, but Juventus are second in Serie A behind Inter and are an experienced European side.
The tie will reunite Juve manager Claudio Ranieri with his former club. The Italian was sacked by the Stamford Bridge outfit after four years in charge and replaced by Mourinho in 2004.
Chelsea secretary David Barnard was happy with the draw and told Sky Sports News: "Any team at this stage of the competition is obviously quality but it could have been a lot worse, maybe Barcelona.
"It obviously brings back Claudio Ranieri to the Bridge and I am sure Claudio will get a good reception from the Chelsea supporters.
"In Claudio's last season we actually reached the semi-finals and the Champions League means a lot to him and Chelsea."
After after the draw in Nyon, Ranieri said: "I can't say that I'm happy.
"But it's a beautiful tie, a fascinating one and we will have to be in top form," said the Italian. "Chelsea is a team that is constructed to win the Champions League and for Abramovich not to win it, it would be a disaster.
"For our part, we will try to stop Chelsea from reaching the top of the world which is where Abramovich has programmed them to arrive to.
"It's a difficult but a stimulating tie for us but I don't think they will be happy to be facing us."
Barcelona, the only non-English side to reach the semi-finals last season and the most impressive side in Europea this season, play Olympique Lyon.
Villarreal, who reached the semi-finals in their first appearance in 2006, drew Panathinaikos while Atletico Madrid face Porto and Sporting Lisbon meet Germany's Bayern Munich.
