Ireland are continuing to monitor the fitness of Jon Walters ahead of Monday's Euro 2016 opener against Sweden.
Martin O’Neill gave his squad the day off on Friday on the advice of medical staff, with training restricted to a walk round the Stade de Mountbaron training ground in Versailles.
Walters took a limited part in training on Thursday as he looks to recover from an achilles problem, and O’Neill said Friday’s rest day had been used to track the progress of the Stoke City forward.
O’Neill said: “Yeah we had a day off today, I think what we decided with the medical staff was to try and keep it as close to what the boys would be preparing for, lets say, club football, so with Monday’s game in mind we’ll train for a coupleof days before hand.
“So though we climbed onto the bus and went down to the training ground it was really just a walk and in terms of [AN INJURY]update, the medical staff were saying just leave Jon Walters as he is at this minute and let’s see how he is tomorrow.”
While Walter's participation at the Stade de France remains in doubt, there was better news regarding James McCarthy and Robbie Keane.
He said: “Fingers crossed [they will be available]. It’s looking more positive than let’s say six or seven days ago.
“Robbie himself said he’s a quick healer, he’s doing fine at the moment and I think that there’s been very littlereaction to the training James has done so that’s a very good sign.”
Elsewhere the FAI have annoucned they have reduced their debts by €10 million, and that Denis O’Brien will continue to contribute to the salaries of Ireland’s senior management.
