James McClean sustained a bruised bone in the knee while playing for West Brom in a pre-season friendly on Saturday but could be back in action for the club when they take on Deportivo La Coruna this weekend.

Chris Brunt and McClean both had to be replaced in the defeat by Bristol Rovers due to injuries but neither now appears to have a serious problem. Brunt is said to have a minor calf strain, while a scan revealed that the Republic of Ireland international injured his knee.

Both will miss the club’s game against Port Vale on Tuesday but the pair will be assessed before the game in Spain this weekend with both believed to have a chance of featuring again.

McCean's former club, Derry City, have signed 19 year-old goalkeeper Tom McDermott until the end of the season. The teenager, from Strabane, has spent the last three years at Tottenham Hotspur.

Sligo Rovers have moved to strengthen their bid to play their way out of relegation trouble by adding three players to their squad.

Manager Gerard Lyttle, who has struggled to engineer a significant improvement in the side’s results since taking over, has signed Vinny Faherty from Galway United, Greg Moorhouse from Glenavon and winger Jamie McDonagh who spent last season in Scotland with Greenock Morton.

Rovers drew with Dundalk on Saturday night, a result that left them a point clear of Galway in 10th place but they are still three points adrift of St Patrick's Athletic in ninth place ahead of this weekend's visit by the Dubliners to the Showgrounds.
