Roy Keane is interested in resurrecting the Premier League career of Andy Cole by bringing the former Newcastle front man back to the north-east.
Cole (35) is looking for a new club after being released by Portsmouth this summer and the Sunderland boss is considering making him one of two more signings before the transfer window closes.
Keane, who played with the veteran forward at Manchester United, said: "Coley has obviously left Portsmouth and that is something I am looking at, I have to say, at the moment. There will probably be news on one or two players who will be coming in."
Keane is moving for the striker as it looks like target Mido favours a move to Middlesbrough over Sunderland.
Keane added: "Generally speaking, if we could add two players in next week or two I would be delighted.
"I am very pleased with the players we have got in but I do believe we need two more players to help the squad."
Middlesbrough have agreed a fee with Tottenham to sign Egyptian striker Mido.
Boro hope to complete a deal "within the next 36 hours" after confirming the forward is currently undergoing a medical in the north east.
Manager Gareth Southgate said: "We've agreed a fee with Tottenham and that's enabled us to have Mido up to see us and he's currently in the process of having his medical.
"Hopefully if everything goes well we'll have some news in the next 36 hours."
Mido's move to Birmingham collapsed earlier this summer. Sunderland and Boro then entered the frame and the Teessiders have now agreed a fee of £6.8million.
Southgate added: "All the talks have been very positive and I don't see the medical being too much of a problem for him."
While the transfer seems imminent, Mido (24) will not immediately appear for Boro as he requires a work permit and is lacking match fitness.
