Sheffield Wednesday manager Brian Laws claims Dutch striker Patrick Kluivert is interested in joining the club on trial.
Laws said last night he had offered the 31-year-old former AC Milan, Barcelona and Ajax frontman the opportunity to join up with his squad after learning of his availability through an agent.
Kluivert was released by Dutch champions PSV Eindhoven at the end of last season and would be available on a free transfer.
Laws said: "There is a possibility it could go ahead. I know the agent in question very well and, while we were in Holland, he mentioned Patrick was looking for another club. He has made contact with the player, who is quite interested - that's the invitation to him.
"I'm not going to draw conclusions from the fact that he might be interested. We all know what a quality player he is but I would like to see him in training and a game to see what his hunger and desire is about."
