Setanta Cup:Drogheda United's defence of the Setanta Cup began in defeat this evening when Irish League champions and current leaders Linfield left United Park with a win.

Aidan O'Kane's goal after 30 minutes decided the tie and 2005 champions left with the points.  The home fans had little to shout about and were frustrated with 15 minutes to go when Graham Gartland's header was disallowed for offside.

Also in Group One, a late goal from Kevin McHugh ensured Pat Fenlon got off to a winning start as Derry City boss with a 1-0 away win over Glentoran at The Oval.

St. Patrick's Athletic marked their debut in the competition with a 3-0 win over Group Two opponents Portadown in Richmond Park.

Pat's took the lead minutes before halftime through Joseph N'do.  A brace early in the second half from Alan Kirby sealed the points for the homeside.

The other  match in Group Two between Dungannon Swifts and Cork City ended scoreless.
