Celtic midfielder Aiden McGeady admits an away victory in the Champions League is next on the agenda after their historic win over AC Milan on Wednesday.

The Hoops' 2-1 win over the holders, courtesy of a last-minute strike by forward Scott McDonald, was their first in seven attempts against the Rossoneri.

The Republic of Ireland star turned his attention to Celtic's form on the road in the knowledge that the Parkhead side have failed on 14 occasions to win on their travels in the competition.

A 2-0 defeat by Shakhtar Donetsk in the first Group D match preceded the win over Milan and Gordon Strachan's side now face a trip to Benfica where they lost 3-0 last season when they were paired together in the same section.

McGeady said: "There was still a buzz at training after beating Milan.  To beat the European champions speaks for itself, you can't ask for anymore than that.

"We would have been happy with a draw but to take it one step further was brilliant.  It was probably one of the best results we've had as a club in Europe so we can take a lot of heart from it.

"It's hard to put your finger on why we struggle away but in most games away we tend to go behind quite early in the game.

"Look at Shakhtar and Copenhagen and Benfica last year, we didn't give ourselves a great start and the games were over before they even started really. Shakhtar were two-nil up within 10 minutes.

"I wouldn't say so there is a psychological block. We are just trying to get off to a good start every time we play away from home.

"We think 'this could be our chance' but we just seem to get off to a really bad start. But hopefully we can get over that."

Celtic's next fixture could hardly be more of a contrast to their pulsating clash with the Rossoneri all-stars.

After beating the European champions, Celtic travel to Fir Park to play bottom side Gretna who have four points from eight games and already look to be struggling to avoid relegation.

But McGeady insists he is expecting a tough game against the Border club.

He said: "After a big European game you go back to SPL duty, that's the way it happens.  It's still another game we want to win.

"We know that every team we play tried to up their game against us, that's what happens playing for a team like Celtic and they do tend to play better."
