Bohemians 2 Drogheda United 1
Republic of Ireland under-21 international Ross Tierney struck a second half brace at Dalymount Park as Bohemians moved into fourth place in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division table with a 2-1 victory over Drogheda United.
1-0 adrift at the break courtesy of a Ciaran Kelly own goal, the Gypsies turned the tables on their County Louth counterparts after the resumption to leapfrog Derry City in the top-flight standings.
Playing their penultimate home game of the year, Bohs threatened the Drogs goal on a couple of occasions during the opening quarter.
However, it was the visitors who ultimately broke the deadlock as Luke Heeney’s set-piece delivery on 28 minutes was fired beyond the reach of Stephen McGuinness by the unfortunate Kelly.
This presented the Boynesiders with a one-goal advantage at the interval, but a surge was expected from the hosts on the restart. Indeed, just under four minutes were gone on the clock in the second half when Tierney curled a shot past Drogs netminder David Odumosu.
Momentum was now with Keith Long’s Dubliners and while they were forced to be patient, Tierney ensured the points when their way after he unleashed an unstoppable drive into the Drogheda net with 14 minutes remaining.
