LIMERICK 0, DERRY CITY 4 Derry City put a halt to Limerick's recent three-game unbeaten run under Martin Russell at Thomond Park last night.
The visitors were full value for the victory and had the game wrapped up by the halfway stage when they led 2-0.
From the start, Derry attacked and Michael Duffy brought a great save from Limerick goalkeeper Barry Ryan after 11 minutes.
But the goalkeeper had no chance when Patrick McEleney side-footed the ball to the net following an excellent build-up involving four players after 20 minutes.
Poor defensive play by Stephen Folan led to goal number two.
Duffy and McEleney both had chances after Ryan saved initially from Duffy, who finally managed to put the ball in the net.
First half
Limerick’s only chance of the first half fell to Kieran Djilali whose shot from an acute angle was tipped over by goalkeeper Doherty.
Duffy could have made it three a few minutes before the break but they again beat Ryan after 64 minutes.
Duffy and McEleney were again involved before the latter set up Philip Lowry who shot low to the corner.
Substitute Ryan Curran completed the demolition with a late goal.
Another substitute, Mark Timlin, forced a great save from Ryan at the end of a miserable night for limerick.
