Drogheda United 4 UCD 0
Damien Richardson’s first league game back in the dugout for seven years couldn’t have gone much better as Drogheda United cruised to a 4-0 win at home to UCD.
The home side hit the front inside 10-minutes when Cathal Brady squared a pass to Gavin Brennan and the midfielder smashed a shot through Niall Corbet’s legs.
UCD came more into the game towards the end of the first half, the Students moving the ball well and began to open gaps for Connor Cannon and Ayman Ben-Mohamad but it wasn’t enough for the strikers to capitalise on.
A much more clinical second half saw Drogheda put a more accurate scoreline on the board.
Gary O’Neill began the second half scoring when he intercepted a poor back pass from Ian Ryan to round the goalkeeper and finish with aplomb on 59 minutes.
Sixty seconds later and Drogheda made it three as Brady got on the scoresheet. Released by Gavan Holohan, he cut in from the right and slid the ball under Corbet.
Brady then turned provider for Drogheda’s fourth, a cross from the right was met by Gary O’Neill, who headed home from four yards out.
