Shamrock Rovers have confirmed Joey O'Brien will leave the club to take up a coaching role with Dublin rivals Shelbourne.

O’Brien made 85 appearances after arriving in Tallaght in 2018, helping the Hoops win back-to-back League of Ireland titles in 2020 and 2021.

35-year-old O’Brien came through the youth system at Bolton Wanderers and also played for Sheffield Wednesday and West Ham before returning to his native Dublin.

He will now link up with new Shels boss Damien Duff at Tolka Park, after the former Ireland and Chelsea winger was unveiled as manager earlier this month.
