Unlikely hero Stuart Parnaby put a dent in Bolton's European charge with an injury time winner for Middlesbrough in a seven-goal thriller.

Defender Radhi Jaidi looked to have snatched a point for Wanderers nine minutes from time as Boro squandered a 3-1 lead, but Parnaby ensured the points stayed on Teesside with his late strike.

Stelios Giannakopoulos had given the visitors the lead before Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink's 14th and 15th goals of the season either side of a Mark Viduka strike but Boro in the driving seat, but Jay-Jay Okocha's 57th-minute finish restored hope for Bolton.

Middlesbrough boss Steve McClaren rang the changes once again as he attempted to cope with his side's three-pronged campaign.

Bolton boss Sam Allardyce made just two changes to the side which defeated Sunderland 2-0 last weekend - with Radhi Jaidi replacing Bruno N'Gotty and Henrik Pedersen getting the nod ahead of Ricardo Vaz Te.

Boro wasted little time in making their intentions clear when skipper for the day Ugo Ehiogu's clearance was deflected into Morrison's path and he slid the ball into Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink's run, only for Jaidi to make a vital interception.

However, the home side fell behind with just three minutes gone as the centre of their defence crumbled.

Ehiogu could only help Jaaskelainen's clearance on towards his own goal, where Davies, under pressure from Stelios Giannakopoulos, failed to clear and the Greek fired home despite Franck Queudrue's desperate efforts to keep it out.

But Boro were back on terms within five minutes when Joey O'Brien inexplicably handled Fabio Rochemback's free-kick in the box.

Referee Howard Webb immediately pointed to the spot, although did not even speak to the full-back, and Hasselbaink stepped up to squeeze the penalty under Jaaskelainen for his 14th goal of the season.

Boro might have gone ahead when Viduka was presented with two glorious opportunities on 23 minutes, although he could not connect with Morrison's inviting cross and then scuffed a left-foot effort straight at Jaaskelainen from close range.Hasselbaink set up Pogatetz in the 28th minute - but the Austrian international made poor contact with his first-time left-foot effort and it was blocked and cleared.

But Rochemback opened the door on the half-hour and his two strikers combined to perfect effect to put their side in front.

The Brazilian midfielder's lofted ball over the top was chested back for Viduka by Hasselbaink, and the former Leeds hitman calmly prodded it past Jaaskelainen for his fourth goal in as many Premiership games.

Another chance went begging seconds later when Morrison ran on to Viduka's cross, but smashed his left-foot shot well wide.Bolton fell further behind just two minutes after the restart. Viduka jumped for Queudrue's long free-kick but did not get a touch, and the ball ran through for the unmarked Hasselbaink to lift his finish over the advancing Jaaskelainen and in off the post.

Allardyce replaced Pedersen with Jared Borgetti on 53 minutes, knowing he needed to do something radical if the game was not to be written off. The substitution paid off within four minutes when the Mexican lured Ehiogu into an untidy challenge inside the box, and referee Webb pointed to the spot for the game's second penalty.

Schwarzer guessed correctly to dive to his left and save Okocha's tame shot, but the Nigerian slammed the rebound into the roof of the net to make it 3-2.

Wanderers got themselves back on terms with nine minutes remaining when Stelios and Ricardo Gardner worked a short corner move for the Jamaican to cross for Jaidi to power a header past Schwarzer.

But two minutes into injury-time, Stuart Parnaby met Yakubu's cross at the far post to fire home the latest of winners for the home side.
