St Patrick's Athletic have opened up a two point gap at the top of the Eircom Premier League with a 2-1 win over Shamrock Rovers at Richmond Park.

A goal against the run of play from Anto Murphy gave Pat's a halftime lead and they looked out of sight when Darragh Maguire scored a second.  A late strike from Tadhg Purcell gave the homeside a scare but they remain unbeaten in the league.

Second place Drogheda were away at Cork who, having been ahead twice, will be disappointed to have earned just a point.

Shane Robinson's penalty gave Drogs an eighth minute lead but the tables were turned when Roy O'Donovan hit a brace shortly after the hour, only for Drogheda's Finnish midfielder Sami Ristila to secured a point.
