FAI Cup and LOI round-up:As success on other fronts slips from their grasp St Patrick's Athletic kept hopes of silverware alive on one front at least this evening, with a 2-0 win over Sporting Fingal in their FAI Cup quarter-final replay at Inchicore.

Striker Mark Quigley got them off the mark with a stunning 20 yard effort three minutes before the break and their passage into the last four was secured by Glenn Fitzpatrick after 62 minutes.

Quigley's effort was just reward for early pressure from John McDonnell's side who could have taken the lead in the first half hour had Ryan Guy and Keith Fahey not been denied by former Shelbourne goalkeeper Steve Williams.

There was little the latter could have done about Quigley's effort, however, as the striker picked the ball up on the left flank, drifted inside his man and struck a shot with the outside of his right into the top left hand corner.

Williams was caught out of position for the second as Fitzpatrick head home a point blank chance from Alan Kirby's cross.

It was all Pat's from there on in as the First Division side hung on to lay claim to a very respectable Cup run.

In the league, leaders Boehmians opened the gap on Pat's to 19 points after coming from a goal down to beat fierce rivals Shamrock Rovers 2-1.

Tadhg Purcell gave the homeside the lead after 20 minutes, shortly after Hoops defender Darragh Maguire was sent off.

Midfielder Gary Deegan equalised on the stroke of halftime and Mindaugas Kalonas' low left foot shot sealed the win for the Gypsies.

Eamon Zayed rescued a point for Drogheda United at home to bottom side Galway Untied after Jonathan Keane gave Jeff Kenna's side the lead after just six minutes.

Goals from Lawrie Dudfield and Denis Behan in the 13th and 17th minute respectively, were enough for Cork City to fend off the challenge of UCD at Turner's Cross.

The Leesiders remain fifth but closed the gap and Drogheda to two points.

Finn Harps lifted themselves further from danger thanks to an 82nd minute Stephen Parkhouse penalty that gave them a 1-0 win over Bray Wanderers at the Carlisle Grounds.
