Ramos denies Sevilla raid

Juande Ramos has denied he is planning to raid Sevilla to take Fredi Kanoute and Daniel Alves to Tottenham.

Juande Ramos has denied he is planning to raid Sevilla to take Fredi Kanoute and Daniel Alves to Tottenham.

The new White Hart Lane boss parted company with the La Liga outfit last week and was immediately confirmed as Spurs' new manager.

But the Spaniard insists he has no plans to further antagonise his former employers by attempting to sign two of their key men, and claims the speculation has no foundation whatsoever.

Ramos told AS: "I am surprised because I did not know this side of the English press. They have invented everything. I wanted my first words to be in the press conference on Tuesday and I did not talk to anyone before.

"Things I cannot control I do not worry about because otherwise I would become very angry. I do not want to sign anyone from Sevilla nor any other team. I want to know what we already have."

Ramos remains confident he can lift Spurs out of the Premier League relegation zone, with the first shoots of recovery being seen last night's Carling Cup victory over Blackpool.

He added: "The feeling is very positive. The players are doing everything that is being asked of them, I can see that. With a little bit of luck and some good results we can regain the confidence and make life a bit easier.

"We have to find a system that best suits the players and I believe that we will do that. I want to see the team competing and continuing to improve as things are changed.

"The club is in an uncomfortable situation. It is not going to be like that forever. That has to be changed and I expect that to happen while we are here. Tottenham are one of the five biggest clubs in England."
