Liverpool are expected to announce Fernando Torres as their €36 million record signing on Wednesday after he passed a medical this afternoon.
"Atletico de Madrid have reached an agreement with Liverpool Football Club to transfer Fernando Torres to the British club," the Primera Liga club said in a brief statement on their website on Tuesday.
The 23-year-old, who will become the most expensive Spanish player in history when the move is completed, passed a medical at Anfield on Tuesday and Liverpool said he was expected to sign on Wednesday.
A club spokesman said: "The player has passed a medical. All the agreements are now in place and he will put pen to paper on the deal on Wednesday."
Torres was returning to Madrid for a farewell news conference with Atletico on Wednesday before flying back to Liverpool to sign the deal and have another press conference at Anfield.
The clubs also confirmed on Tuesday that Luis Garcia has left Liverpool for Atletico, where he spent the 2002-03 season on loan, for an undisclosed sum.
