Portimonese 1-1 Republic of Ireland: Hopefully this is not the start of things to come for the Republic of Ireland as Giovanni Trapattoni's first game in charge ended in a disappointing 1-1 draw with local Portuguese side Portimonese.

The training match is one of two games the Republic of Ireland are playing during their six-day training camp in Portugal.

Substitute Andy Keogh's scored a 49th minute equaliser to cancel out a first half opener from Gonzalo.

After the game Trapattoni said: "It was good opportunity to see the players in action.

"At this stage, after just a few days together, the players are still thinking about things rather than playing instinctively.

"Their mentality is good but there is still work to be done to change some of their habits.

"The pitch was not good and some of the passes which normally would have been accurate were not. I didn't expect any more today because we were missing six senior players.

Ireland will play another training match tomorrow evening against Lagos at 8pm in the Municipal Stadium.
