Uefa have confirmed Paul Scholes will serve a one-match ban for his dismissal during Manchester United's Champions League defeat to AS Rome at the Stadio Olimpico last night.
Scholes' situation had been slightly complicated by the fact he was only one booking away from a suspension when yesterday's game began and had been ruled out of next Tuesday's Old Trafford return when he was cautioned by referee Herbert Fandel for a foul on Christian Wilhelmson.
So, when he was eventually dismissed for tripping Francesco Totti, there was some speculation Scholes would actually be ruled out for two games.
However, UEFA have now said that is not the case, so Scholes - who missed the 1999 Champions League Final through suspension - will sit out next week's second-leg but, when he returns for the semi-final, should United progress, he will still be one caution away from another ban.
