Sligo 1 UCD 0: Sligo Rovers' long wait for a win over UCD ended at The Showgrounds yesterday with Bosnian Fahrudin Kudozovic scoring the all-important winning goal in the 90th minute as the students looked set to preserve their 11-year unbeaten run against Sligo.
UCD had a chance to open the scoring after 40 minutes when Alan Mahon sent Shay McFall through but the latter's effort from 35 yards struck the post.
Matt Gregg in the visitors' goal did well to block a Stephen Manson shot on 49 minutes and Gregg was in action again after 52 minutes to keep a Choice Aisien shot out following good approach play by Manson.
As the game ebbed and flowed Mahon nearly gave UCD the lead in the 70th minute. Awarded a free-kick on the edge of the box the defender stepped up and put the ball around the wall only to see it hit the post and bounce away to safety with Richard Brush well beaten.
Sligo upped the tempo and got their reward in the last minute when Kudozovic, a scorer against Longford Town last week, saw his superbly struck effort fly into the UCD net to claim another three points to move Rovers into third place in the league and just three points behind early pacesetters St Patrick's Athletic.
