Graeme Souness has pulled out of the running to become the next Bolton manager.

Graeme Souness has pulled out of the running to become the next Bolton manager.

Following the departure of his former Liverpool team-mate Sammy Lee last week, Souness was mooted as a contender to take over at the Reebok.

However, Souness has told Sky SportsNews he is no longer a candidate to assume control of the Premier League's bottom club.

The former Liverpool and Blackburn boss has contacted Bolton chairman Phil Gartside to say he 'no longer wishes to be considered' for the job.

Meanwhile, Real Sociedad have confirmed their intention to hang on to Chris Coleman, who has also been linked with the vacancy.

Sociedad have already rejected an approach from the Trotters, with the Spanish side expecting Coleman to fulfil his contract.

Sporting director Salva Iriarte told the club's official website: "It is very clear. He has a three-year contract with us and he is the coach who we are placing our confidence in for that period.

"He's happy here, committed to the project and keen to carry on. I've no doubt that he will be our coach for the next three years."
