Holland coach Marco van Basten will step down from the role after Euro 2008. The former Ajax and AC Milan striker informed the Dutch Football Association (KNVB) of his decision at a meeting today.
Van Basten's assistant John van't Schip will also leave following the tournament in Austria and Switzerland next summer.
Van Basten took over from Dick Advocaat following Holland's semi-final defeat to Portugal in the semi-finals of Euro 2004.
A statement from Van Basten read: "After four years it is time for new surroundings.
"Although John and I have absolutely no idea what the future holds for us, we think it is our duty to inform the KNVB of our decision as they have always been a good employer for us."
KNVB director Henk Kesler said: "I regret the decision of both men although I appreciate they have informed us of their intentions. We now have time to find a successor."
