Villarreal midfielder Marcos Senna was hoping to complete a move to Manchester United although he would be content to stay at the Primera Liga side.
"I really hope they can agree a deal so that I can leave for Manchester," Senna told reporters today. "But if it doesn't happen I will not be upset if I have to stay at Villarreal.
"I'm not worried because I've got a year's contract left with Villarreal and whatever happens with Manchester United I will be fine."
Villarreal said this week they had been approached by United and would sanction the move if the English Premier League side made a good enough offer for the 30-year-old central midfielder.
Senna, who was born in Brazil, was part of Spain's World Cup squad and played an important role in Villarreal's run to the Champions League semi-finals last season.
Villarreal have brought in midfielders Robert Pires, Cani and Leandro Somoza in the close season plus Turkish striker Nihat Kahveci.
United signed England midfielder Michael Carrick from Tottenham Hotspur for a fee of up to £18.6 million sterling at the end of last month.
