St Patrick's Athletic 0-1 Drogheda United (aet):Eamon Zayed's opportune volley from the edge of the 18-yard box deep into extra-time ensured Drogheda United booked their place in the final of the Setanta Cup once more.
The defending champions required extra-time before overcoming a determined and well-organised St Patrick's Athletic side at Richmond Park.
Zayed showed plenty of creativity all night as he led the line with purpose for Drogheda. His endeavour was rewarded when a floating cross from the right came to him as he somehow managed to reel off a quick volley with the left foot before any Pat's defenders could clear the danger.
"It was great to get the goal but even more important to get the winner," said Zayed after the game. "Overall I think we deserved the win. We're down the bare bones with injuries but the lads have done well and we look forward to be back in the final."
Zayed's goal was the difference in a highly entertaining game and he was also named man of the match.
In the dying seconds of normal time there was more high drama as The Drogs were awarded a penalty following a lunging tackle on the edge of the St Pat's box.
However, St Pat's were spared after Stuart Byrne's effort from the spot rattled off the left hand upright before being cleared to safety.
Drogheda will learn of their final opponents tomorrow night when Linfield, as winners of Group One, take on Cork City in the other semi-final at Windsor Park (8.05pm).
The final takes place on Saturday, May 12th.
