Colleges GAA Leinster SFCSt Joseph's 2-12 Moate CS 0-5 A vastly superior St Joseph's, Rochfortbridge, side yesterday brushed aside the challenge of Moate CS to advance to the quarter-final of the Leinster Colleges football A championship.
This match was due to be played last Wednesday but it was postponed because of bad weather
In atrocious conditions in Rochfortbridge, goals in either half by Danny Mooney and Gavin Hoey put paid to the Moate school's hopes. Playing with a gusting wind in the opening period Luke Dempsey's charges, superbly led by David Glennon, had built a 10-point lead by the interval.
Moate needed an early second-half score to kick-start their challenge but it was the elusive Glennon, who scored six points in all, who put St Joseph's further ahead. When midfielder Gavin Hoey hammered home their second goal midway through the half the victory was secure.
Moate, to their credit, never stopped trying but were denied much needed goals by the agility of St Joseph's goalkeeper Stephen Gallagher, who made two superb saves late in the game.
