Louth SFC Final: St Joseph's 2-7, St Patrick's 0-9 On the 10th anniversary of their first county title, St Joseph's lifted the Joe Ward Cup again in Dundalk yesterday.
The underdogs started well and led throughout, helped by a lacklustre St Patrick's, who had four Louth players in their starting XV and were going for a third crown in four years.
After Martin Farrelly and Eamonn Carroll exchanged early scores St Joseph's took control, coping better with a slippy pitch.
They led 0-3 to 0-1 on 19 minutes when a Derek Mulligan centre was fisted to the net by David Reilly.
They led 1-4 to 0-3 at the break, and whatever hopes St Patrick's harboured were dashed when, 10 minutes into the second half, Declan Sullivan found Mulligan in acres of space and he shot low to the right corner.
