LEINSTER COLLEGES SENIOR HURLING A CHAMPIONSHIP St Kieran's College 3-25 Good Counsel 1-5:DEFENDING LEINSTER and All-Ireland champions St Kieran's College, Kilkenny sent out a stern warning when they dished out a big beating to Good Counsel, New Ross in the opening round in St Kieran's ground yesterday.

Twice during the early stages the teams swapped points, but once David Burke clipped home a goal for St Kieran’s in the ninth minute there was only going to be one winner.

From there to the half-time break, free-taker Michael Donnelly arrowed over points at will. At the interval the winners led by 1-10 to 0-3.

St Kieran’s opened the new half with two great points from the impressive Burke. Good Counsel were hit for a second goal by Ciarán Prendergast in the 38th minute (2-16 to 0-3) but they soon pulled a goal back through Mark Aylward. The game was already over as a contest however.

There were no less than 10 goals in the other Leinster SH A game played yesterday in Kilkenny, with Kilkenny CBS defeating Coláiste Eoin, 7-8 to 3-10.
