St Mel's, Longford qualified for a second-round meeting with Naas CBS after easily disposing of St David's, Greystones 25-3 in the Leinster Schools' Section A Junior Cup at Edenderry yesterday.

It was never really a contest as the St Mel's forwards led by captain Ciaran Maguire, who crossed for two tries, showed a level of consistency that St David's struggled to contain. Second row Stephen Cooney and wing Alan Madden were on hand to finish off the other two tries for a St Mel's side that has prospered from a close relationship with Longford rugby club.

FIRST ROUND (At Edenderry): St Mel's, Longford 25 (C Maguire 2 tries; A Madden, S Cooney try; C Casey penalty, conversion); St David's, Greystones 3 (D Wildes penalty).
