Leinster Colleges SF A Final/St Patrick's 2-9 Knockbeg 0-13:The meeting of the 2005 and 2006 champions in Tullamore on Saturday produced a rousing tussle which went to extra time before St Patrick's of Navan retained their title by a two-point margin.
With a strong wind at their backs, Knockbeg raced into a 0-7 to 0-1 interval lead but on the change of ends St Pat's lost no time in reducing the deficit.
Points from captain David Maguire, Brian Sheridan (2) and Stephen Murphy hauled them to within three points of the Carlow side and midway through the half Darragh Smyth scored the St Pat's equalising goal.
The sides remained deadlocked at the end of normal time, 1-7 to 0-10, following points from Conor Delaney and Ambrose Doran for Knockbeg which were matched by Sheridan and Kieran Lynch for St Pat's.
A point by Patrick O'Rourke gave holders St Pat's an early lead in extra time and within seconds substitute John Rogers punched home their crucial second goal although Knockbeg battled valiantly all the way to the finish.
