Racing News: A decision on whether or not Grey Swallow will run in the Dubai World Cup is set to be taken this weekend.
The 2004 Irish Derby winner has fully recovered from the cut to the hind leg that affected him last month and a trip to the Middle East for the $6 million highlight remains an option for the horse.
"He is very well and we're delighted with how he is going. We just have to see if this race will come a little bit too soon," trainer Dermot Weld said yesterday.
Grey Swallow's preparation has been carried out at home but one Irish horse in the Gulf already is John Oxx's Alayan who is scheduled to run at Nad Al Sheba tomorrow.
Alayan is set to tackle a mile and a half for the first time in the Group Three Dubai City Of Gold but faces a strong field, including last year's Irish St Leger winner Collier Hill and Godophin's former Arc runner-up Cherry Mix who will be ridden by Frankie Dettori.
Dettori is hoping that Electrocutionist will handle the dirt surface in the Group Two Maktoum Challenge III. Formerly trained in Italy by Valfredo Valiani, he won the Group One JuddmonteInternational. "He's having his first run for us and it will also be his first run on the dirt," Dettori said.
