South Africa coach Philippe Troussier yesterday revealed he is involved in talks with Sheffield Wednesday about the vacant manager's job. Troussier is the latest big name Frenchman to be linked with the post along with Gerard Houllier, who currently holds a high-profile position within the French Football Association.
Troussier, who has spent 10 years coaching clubs and national teams in South Africa, Ivory Coast, Morocco, Nigeria and Burkina Faso, now appears to be the slight favourite.
The 43-year-old Frenchman met Sheffield Wednesday officials yesterday as the Hillsborough club continue their lengthy search for a replacement for Ron Atkinson, whose contract was not renewed at the end of last season.
Marc-Vivien Foe, the Lens and Cameroon midfielder, is insisting that his move to Manchester United is still on, but Aston Villa have told United's manager Alex Ferguson to stop trying to unsettle their striker Dwight Yorke.
John Gregory, Villa's manager, accused Ferguson of trying to sign Yorke on the cheap. "I think it is unfair what is going on," he said. "I have had no contact from United about Dwight but I genuinely feel they are trying to unsettle the player with conjecture that is being drummed up."
