AIRTRICITY LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION UCD 2 Derry City 2:UCD ENDED a dismal run of seven league defeats in a row to ease their relegation worries when picking up a vital point in an entertaining clash with Derry City at the Belfield Bowl in front of a crowd of 258.
Derry dominated the first half but were made to regret a host of missed chances when UCD took the lead in the first minute of added time. A cross by Paul Corry from the left was missed by the Derry defence and Dean Marshall cleverly fired home.
College again looked dangerous early in the second half but Derry were level on 65 minutes when after constant pressure defender Danny Lafferty headed home after a cross by Ruaidhrí Higgins from the left.
But straight from the restart, Rusk charged straight upfield and fired home a shot from the edge of the box that Derry ’keeper Ger Doherty fumbled over the line.
Derry refused to lie down and were level again on 83 minutes when a corner by James McClean allowed Stewart Greacen to get in a diving header past Ger Barron.
Late on, the visitors had a let-off when Darragh Meenan’s shot hit the post with Doherty beaten.
