WOMEN'S HOCKEY:FROZEN PITCHES claimed two of Saturday's Irish Senior Cup ties, Pegasus v Loreto and Ulster Elks v Armagh both having to be rescheduled, but the remaining six games went ahead, all bar Hermes' 8-0 defeat of Corinthian close enough affairs.

UCD’s trip north to play Belfast Harlequins looked like it might have been in vain, with their hosts’ Deramore Park pitch frozen, but the tie was switched to Grosvenor Grammar School where two goals from Rachel Burke gave the students a 2-1 victory.

The 2009 Cup winners have been drawn at home to Cork Harlequins in the quarter-finals, the Munster champions also having a successful journey north, Cliodhna Sargent’s goal deciding their game against Ards.

Two first-half strikes from Erika Hinkson proved enough for Old Alexandra to prevail over Pembroke Wanderers, for whom Sarah Clarke pulled a goal back, and they host Ballymoney in the last eight, the Ulster side beating Munster League leaders Catholic Institute 2-1.

Seven players got on the scoresheet for Hermes against Corinthian, Aine Connery the only player to score twice, that victory earning them a trip away to the winners of the Ulster Elks v Armagh tie. Whoever emerges from the Pegasus v Loreto game will have home advantage over Lurgan, 2-0 winners against Glenanne, in the next round.
