Kehoe Cup: Wicklow began their defence of the Kehoe Cup with a workman-like 2-9 to 0-3 victory over Louth at a deserted Gaelic Grounds, Drogheda, yesterday afternoon.

Two first half-goals for the visitors were the difference between the sides at the interval as Wicklow led 2-3 to 0-3.

The first goal was the opening score of the match, with full forward Wayne O'Gorman netting from close range after seven minutes.

Louth full back Aidan Carter had barely time to return to his position after striking over a 34th-minute free when the Louth goal was breached by corner forward Denis Moran in the final action of the half.

Two points in 25 minutes of second-half action, one for either side, told its own story, as Wicklow retained their two-goal lead.

However, the Division 2B side extended their lead with five more points in the final 10 minutes to win by 11 points.

Dublin Institute of Technology withstood a strong second-half recovery by Kildare to win 4-14 to 3-15 at Naas.

The sides were level on a couple of occasions early on but DIT had a point from Tom Frisby and two from Conor Delaney without reply to put them into a lead they never lost.

Paddy Teehan kept DIT in the driving seat with his second goal, and they led by 2-8 to 0-6 at half-time.

Corner forward Seán Reilly was in outstanding scoring form for Meath, who crushed Longford by 2-20 to 1-3 in Longford.

Reilly ended with 1-11 to his credit and his seven points in the first half left the rampant visitors leading 1-11 to 0-1 at the break.

Longford centre-half back Seán Browne was sent off for a second bookable offence 15 minutes from the finish.
