Details of the All-Ireland Women's Football championship for 2002 were announced in Croke Park yesterday, with TG4 continuing as official sponsor of the senior and junior competitions for the next two years. This provides TG4 with exclusive live television rights for both championships for this period.
The Taoiseach Bertie Ahern, who attended the reception, said that the women's championship had truly become part and parcel of the GAA calendar.
"The players are superb athletes who offer a completely new and refreshing perspective on the game," he said. "The great interest and participation that we are witnessing in recent years has come about through hard work and commitment by friends of sport at all levels, and especially the work of the Cumann and of TG4."
This year's All-Ireland finals will be played in Croke Park on Sunday, September 29th, and will be broadcast live on TG4. The channel will also provide live coverage of other matches from earlier stages of the championships as well as highlights coverage in its Monday night Árd san Aer programme.
