Just 1 per cent of Traveller children progress to third-level education compared with more than half of the wider community, latest figures show. The finding is contained in a review of the Government's plan to boost numbers of marginalised groups in the higher-education system. Carl O'Brien reports.

Dublin Film Critics' Circle has, somewhat unexpectedly, named Bradley Cooper's A Star Is Born as the best film of 2018. The fourth version of that Hollywood warhorse was very well reviewed but is notably more mainstream than most of the other films the circle has listed, writes Donald Clarke.

A senior UCD academic has been appointed president of the Technological University Dublin. The new institution - due to be formally established in January from the merger of Dublin Institute of Technology, IT Tallaght and IT Blanchardstown - will be the country's biggest third level institution with 28,000 students.
