Just Chubbys review: The friendly, flavour-filled food truck that foodies are talking about

We ordered tacos and all the sides. Get there early, before everything sells out

What’s on offer?

Barry Stephens, the owner of the renowned 147 Deli, is slinging out tacos, sides and salsas from his new food truck, Just Chubbys, in Clontarf in north Dublin — and everybody in the food world is talking about it. Notably, the chicken and pork are free range, and there are good vegetarian options. The oak-smoked pig’s-head taco is the speciality. Check their Instagram for additions to the menu.

What did we order?

Chicken, beef, pork and veggie tacos. We also ordered all the sides — charred-sweetcorn salsa, spicy chicken crisps with jalapeño crema, crispy pork nugs with salsa verde, guacamole with salsa macha, and charred pineapple with habanero salsa, and a salsa roja.

How was the service?

Friendly but slow. There were some early glitches, but things have improved. We queued to order and waited more than 20 minutes for our food. A free taster of tortilla chips with nacho cheese sauce was a nice touch.

Was the food nice?

Pork head and neck is marinated and oak smoked to bring a serious depth of flavour. The veggie taco is particularly good — meaty Portobello mushrooms with heat from the salsa macha. The corn tortillas are loaded with filling, so they fall apart quickly. Of the sides, the charred pineapple was the top choice; the roja is the winning salsa. Not a fan of the pork nugs or chicken crisps, and unfortunately no tortilla chips came with the guacamole.

What did it cost?

Dinner for four was €54.25: four tacos €20; charred sweetcorn €4.95; chicken crisps €7.95; pork nugs €8.95; guacamole €4.95; charred pineapple €4.95; salsa roja €2.50.

Where does it deliver?

Takeaway only, with a few barrels to perch at if you want to eat on site. Open Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 6pm till the food has sold out.

Would I order it again?

Yes, if I lived locally. They fall apart quickly, so enjoy them there.
