What’s on offer?
Awarded “Takeaway of the Year 2023″, AndChips, the Dungarvan fish and chip shop that puts sustainability at the forefront of everything it does, also bagged the “Champion Chip” at the awards. Owner Eunice Power, who is a familiar face on RTÉ, opened her smart takeaway on the Quays in Dungarvan in 2019 and has added to the menu over the years.
All the fish used in AndChips is wild Irish fish and includes hake, haddock, ling, plaice, cod and whiting from Boatstrand in Waterford, as well as Wexford and Ballycotton in Cork. The wild Atlantic prawns are from Ballycotton. The potatoes used in the chips are from an 8km radius, grown by Colin Ryan in Ballinacourty.
The menu also includes tacos, burgers in Waterford blaas, chicken in brioche buns and Korean chicken wings. If you want to make your meal extra special, wine is now available for €5 a glass and €15 for a bottle. The focus on sustainability extends to encouraging customers to participate in segregating waste, and a new bin system is due to be installed.
What did we order?
We ordered ling goujons and fish tacos from the fish menu, which changes regularly based on what is landed.

How was the service?
Service is just beautiful here, it’s a very smart shop. You order at the counter, get a number and wait for it to be called. There are a few stools by the window, and picnic tables outside.
Was the food nice?
The fish goujons are off-the-charts good. Strips of ling are piping hot inside a golden batter which shatters as you bite into it. Home-made tartar sauce, crushed mushy peas and loads of very good chips are served with it. The tacos are large, again with generous chunks of fish, this time haddock in that light batter. I’m not so mad about the flour tortilla, I’d prefer a corn tortilla, and a little more punch in the salsa would be good. But these are minor points.

What did it cost?
€20 for lunch for two people – ling goujons and chips, €10; haddock fish taco, €10.
Where does it deliver?
It’s takeaway only, and you need to order in the shop. Open daily: Saturday, Sunday and bank holidays, 1pm-9pm; Monday to Friday, 4pm-9pm.
Would I order it again?
Most definitely. The goujons and chips are exemplary and the prices here are so reasonable.
