Commuters were facing major disruption in Dublin on Tuesday evening following a vehicle on fire on the M50 motorway and a rail line closure.
Images posted online showed a bin lorry on fire on the northbound carriageway of the M50 on the Westlink Bridge near the toll.
Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) posted on X saying all lanes of both sides of the motorway have been closed between junction 6 Blanchardstown and junction 7 Lucan. All lanes of the motorway reopened in both directions shortly after 7.30pm.
Dublin Fire Brigade said it was responding to the waste truck fire.

Four fire engines are at the scene, alongside a foam tender and emergency tender, it said.
TII also advised of two separate breakdowns on the M50 earlier on Tuesday evening, adding to congestion. One was affecting two northbound lanes between junction 14 Sandyford and junction 13 Dundrum. The other was affecting one lane between junction 5 Finglas and junction 6 Blanchardstown on the northbound side.
Elsewhere, rail commuters through the Phoenix Park tunnel faced disruption as services were suspended.
Irish Rail said trains were stopped due a track issue. Passengers are advised to make their way to Heuston station for Newbridge-bound services while Sligo and Maynooth trains experienced delays of up to 20 minutes and did not serve Drumcondra.
Irish Rail spokesman Barry Kenny said: “A track circuit showed our signallers that there was a fault and trains were stopped while line maintenance teams checked. We expect to be back open between 7pm and 8pm after interim works and the issue will be fully resolved overnight.”
Services through the tunnel resumed by 8.45pm.
