AUCTION RESULTS

Mullen's of Laurel Park in Bray, Co Dublin, February 18th: an 80 per cent sale rate. Lot 326, Ciaran Cleere's Waiting for Currachs to Return at Night had a hammer price of €4,200 (estimate: €2,500-€3,500) and lot 223, Cattle in a Field by Patrick Leonard achieved €3,800 (€1,500-€2,500). The sleeper of the auction was lot 529, a small violin and bow, which had no label – though there were four letters on the bow – two of which were indecipherable. There had been 10 condition report requests for the lot prior to the sale. The gavel dropped at €1,500 to a telephone bidder – the estimate had been €100-€200.

February 26th: John Weldon, Cow's Lane, Temple Bar, Dublin

The auction will feature a selection of men's wristwatches and includes a Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Control (€1,500-€2,500) and an IWC Porsche design (€1,500-€2,500). Also included is a selection of diamond solitaires: a 1.63 carat H colour of VS2 clarity (€11,000-€13,000) and a 1.07 carat D colour – D being the highest colour grade (€5,000-€6,000). A sapphire and diamond ring (sapphire 2.30 carats) has an estimate of €8,500-€9,500, and a Tiffany diamond and kunzite cluster ring (€400-€600) is also featured. See jwa.ie.

March 3rd: Hegarty auction rooms, the bypass, Bandon, Co Cork

The Ardcarrig collection from Kinsale includes fine art, furniture, collectables and jewellery. Highlights include lot 7, an 18-carat white gold and diamond ring (1.75 carats – €8,200-€8.400) and lot 3, a William Clark oil painting, Yachts off the Scottish Coast (€1,500-€2,000). The sale of contents of 11 Oxmantown Mall, Birr, includes more than 549 lots of period furniture, paintings, antique dental curiosities and silver. Highlights include lot 279 A Lady and Her Child, a watercolour by Sir Frederick William Burton (€5,000-€7,000) and a rare photograph of the moon from 1863 by William Draper (€7,000-€11,000).
