The thing is, we shouldn’t like the Audi Q8. We’ve taken a principled stand against the rise of SUVs, especially in cases where there’s a provably better alternative in the shape of a saloon, estate, coupe, or hatchback. In the case of the Q8, those alternatives are provided by one car - the lovely A7 (or the new A6 Avant if you need a touch more practicality) but the Q8 nevertheless has managed to tickle our fancies. Its glowering, hulking, styling should make it intimidating, but it’s actually a big, friendly thing with a relaxing driving experience. The cabin is utterly gorgeous, comfort is excellent, and refinement close to peerless. Not a lot wrong with it, except that you can (kinda) have all the same in a VW Touareg wrapper for an awful lot less money.
