A pedestrian in his 80s has died following a road traffic incident in New Ross, Co Wexford, on Tuesday evening.

The man sustained serious injuries during a collision with a car at Knockavilla at approximately 7.30pm on Tuesday.

He was then taken to University Hospital Waterford, where he later died.

No other injuries were reported as a result of the road traffic incident.

The road where the collision took place was closed and forensic collision investigators were carrying out a technical examination of the scene.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to the collision to come forward, and have asked that any road users who were travelling in the Knockavilla area or in the Ring Road area of New Ross between 7.15pm and 7.30pm on Tuesday and may have relevant camera footage to make this footage available to gardaí.
