Tesco has suspended shopping deliveries to west Tallaght in Dublin after one of its drivers was struck in the face by an object that came through the window of his vehicle.
Gardaí in Tallaght said they are are investigating the incident which occurred on April 4th.
Gardaí have been in contact with Tesco Security with a view to arranging a meeting attended by the District Officer and Divisional Crime Prevention Office to address the safety concerns of Tesco drivers delivering in the area.
A spokeswoman for Tesco Ireland said it appreciates the inconvenience caused but it has to suspend the service to protect its colleagues and customers.
A spokeswoman for Tesco said: “The company curtails services in an area for a period of time due to incidents of anti-social behaviour in order to protect our colleagues and our customers.”
“At present following several incidents, we are curtailing deliveries in a small number of areas in west Tallaght with an alternative collection option open to customers at Clondalkin and Naas.”
“While we appreciate the inconvenience caused, the safety of our colleagues and customers is of paramount importance.”
It is not yet known when the service will resume in the area.
