Met Éireann has issued a status orange wind warning for western counties, while a yellow warning has been put in place for most of the rest of the country on Monday.
The orange warning was issued last night for Donegal, Galway, Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim, and is in effect until midnight.
Forecasters are anticipating average wind speeds of up to 80km/h this afternoon, with gusts of up to 130km/h possible.
Kilkenny, Tipperary, Laois and Carlow are the only counties to avoid any warning, with areas in the south, east and midlands currently experiencing a yellow wind warning for winds of 65km/h and gusts of over 100km/h.
The yellow warning also expires at midnight.
An orange warning informs people to be prepared for conditions which have the capacity to impact significantly on affected areas, while yellow warnings alert people to the need to be aware, but do not pose an immediate threat to the general population.
The blustery conditions follow on from previous warnings over the course of the weekend, and herald the beginning of what is expected to be a largely unsettled week weather wise.
