Snow and sleet forecast for Valentine’s Day

Met Éireann issues national weather warning and says wintry showers will continue

More snow and sleet could be on the way on Sunday, with wintry showers forecast for Valentine's Day.

Met Éireann said Leinster and east Munster will experience wintry showers of hail, sleet and snow on Sunday.

Isolated showers are also forecast on Sunday night, with sleet or snow showers expected in Ulster and eastern coastal areas.

Met Éireann has also issued a status yellow national weather warning for low temperatures on Sunday night and Monday morning.

The forecaster said that the weather overnight will be very cold, leading to some icy stretches.

The cold weather is to continue through the middle of the week, with the risk of hail, sleet and hill snow on Wednesday and Thursday.

However, daytime temperatures are expected to rise for Friday and next weekend.

AA Roadwatch

Meanwhile, AA Roadwatch said that drivers should be careful near Roundwood, Co Wicklow, as snow has been reported on roads in this area.

An Garda Síochána also warned road users to be careful on Sunday, as icy conditions have been reported across the country.
