A Connemara man, who was disqualified from driving three times in four months, was jailed yesterday after being found behind the wheel of his car.
Michael Conroy (34), Currywongane, Kylemore, Co Galway, was sentenced to three months in prison at Clifden District Court.
Judge Mary Fahy said she was shocked by the case, after hearing that Conroy continued to drive despite being convicted twice for drink-driving and once for dangerous driving.
Garda Michael Griffin said he stopped Conroy in Clifden on August 31st last, and he knew that Conroy was disqualified from driving at the time.
The court was told that Conroy had 10 previous convictions, including a two-year ban for drink-driving, received at Letterfrack District Court on March 24th last year.
A month later he was banned for one year after being convicted of dangerous driving. In July he was given four months in jail and a four-year driving disqualification after being convicted on another drink-driving charge.
Defending solicitor JJ Mannion said his client had a serious alcohol problem.
Judge Fahy jailed Conroy for three months and disqualified him from driving for 12 months.
