Belfast crystal factory seriously damaged by fire

More than 40 firefighters and seven fire appliances tackle extensive blaze

More than 40 firefighters have been tackling a blaze at a factory in an industrial estate in west Belfast since Saturday evening.

Seven fire appliances, a high reach aerial machine and a command unit are at the blaze at a crystal factory off Kennedy Way.

A Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service statement said “extensive firefighting operations” took place at the scene.

The fire was reported at 6pm on Saturday evening.

The factory, Belfast Crystal, is on Blackstaff Road in Kennedy Way industrial estate.

Several buildings, including the Kennedy Way shopping centre, were evacuated for a short time after the fire was reported.
