Vilnius - Mr Vytautas Landsbergis, who led Lithuania to independence from the Soviet Union, yesterday vigorously denied allegations he was once an informer for the KGB security police. The allegations against him came amid preparations for a December presidential vote in which he is a leading candidate. "It is simple slander and I do not have the slightest doubt that this is due to the election campaign," a spokeswoman for Mr Landsbergis told Reuters.
